What can you do to reinforce your training and eLearning?
When developing eLearning it needs to be part of an overall learning strategy to ensure your learners are understanding the content you are trying to teach them. After a learner has taken eLearning or digital training it can be easy to leave it at that and not follow up, the danger of this is that it can mean learners forgets what they have learnt and result has to go over the content they have learned.
See below for some of the things you can do to help reinforce a learners knowledge and understanding of when it comes to training and eLearning.
1. Assessments & Knowledge Checks
Assessments and knowledge checks can be one way to reinforce what a learner has learnt by getting them to critically thinking about the content they have just consumed. In eLearning knowledge checks can be place periodically throughout a course, typically knowledge checks consist of a question or series of questions, for example this could be a multiple choice, multiple selection or drag-and-drop style questions. In these questions it typically tests the learner on the content they have just consumed, it will check the learners understanding on a topic and see if they have fully understood the subject.
Applying your learning content to real world scenarios and situations is another great way to help learners retain knowledge and understanding for a subject. When teaching learners it can be easy to just teach them the content directly, however the issue with this is that it can create a lack of context. Without context it can be difficult for learners understand how and why they need to understand the content they are being taught. The issue with this is that it can result in the learner not taking in everything they are learning as they are unsure how it relates to the real world. If possible when designing eLearning and digital training try to make it relate to real world scenarios, this could be done in the form of a simulation as a day in the life type of course or by using gamification and creating real life tasks the learner has to complete.
3. Group Learning
When creating an eLearning curriculum multiple types of learning can be used. With group discussions/group learning learners can discuss with their peers what they have learnt. For example when teaching the learner about a subject you could have them first take an eLearn then you could have them meet afterwards to discuss what they have learnt, this way it gives the learner time to understand the training at their own pace and then reinforces what they have learnt with other learners by having a discussion afterwards. Alternatively you could have learners take an eLearning course in small groups and work together to answer questions and knowledge checks.
