eLearning UX design

UX or user experience is the experience a user has when using a system, for websites it is how users interact with the web pages e.g are they able to find the information they need, are they able to easily navigate around and were they able to do what they set out to accomplish.

In regards to eLearning this is not too different, when a learner takes a course the UX design will determine how the learner progresses through a course, how they will receive new information and if the experience was enjoyable.

Below are 3 things you can do to improve the UX for your eLearning:

1. Having a Learner Centered UX design

The concept of a learner centered design involves designing eLearning based how the learner will use and interact with the course, integrating the latest bells and whistles into an eLearning course just because its new may not always be the best thing for the learner. It is important to remember when designing a course to design it as if you are a learner and not a developer.

2. Predictability and Consistency

Having consistency in your course will not only make the brand and color scheme more recognisable but will help to prepare learners for upcoming modules and reduce confusion. By using consistent layouts, themes, navigation and titles learners will become more familiar with the course, which will save time, make it easier for them to navigate and improve the overall experience.

3. Minimalist approach

Minimizing clutter and simplifying pages will help to improve the look and feel of the user interface and your course. By limiting colours to a maximum of 3 per page, using consistent fonts and keeping images on each page to the same size will make it easier for the learner to take in new information, interact with the course and enjoy what they are learning.
