Types of eLearning you can create

eLearning and digital training can be a very effective and cost-efficient way to train your learners. As eLearning utilises technology it provides a flexible way to digitally distribute training. With a computer, smartphone or laptop and an internet connection learners are able to take digital training at a time and place of their choosing, this is a massive advantage when compared to traditional classroom training that requires the learner to be at a certain place for a set amount of time, this can often be difficult for some learners due to having to travel and other commitment’s.

But what types of training can I create using eLearning? Below are some examples of the types of training you can use for eLearning.

1. Onboarding

One of the most popular types of training you can use eLearning for is onboarding training. Onboarding training is typically done for new employees, this might be new hires for the company or current employees that are changing jobs to a different department. Typically onboarding training covers the key aspects of the role and the department and will discuss the type of work that the employee will be doing. Typically onboarding will consist of some group or classroom training over a day or several days, prior to this learners will most likely have limited to no knowledge about the department or role, by developing an eLearning and having learners take it in advance prior to the onboarding means that they are able to become familiar with what they are going to learn prior to attending onboarding.

2. Technical Training

Technical skills are an important part of most employees roles, different roles require different levels of technical skills but most roles require some level of technical proficiency. Even when employees obtain technical skills they often have to keep up-to-date with the latest developments and refresh their knowledge. When designing the learning content for technical training it is possible to develop an eLearning that teaches the learner about the key technical concepts they need to know, once this has been taken additional eLearning courses can be taken that goes deeper into the subject. It is also possible to periodically update and release new versions of eLearning courses, this means as technical skills need updating it is also possible to update the eLearning.

3. Compliance Training

Another form of training that can be created is compliance training, this training is often mandatory training that businesses need their employees to take, often for legal reasons. As it is compliance training it needs to get into the hands of all relevant employees, with traditional classroom training this can be an issue as often people are unable to make certain times due to other commitments. Using eLearning it is possible to distribute compliance training easily and effectively. By developing an eLearning course and hosting it online learners are able to take the training at a time and place of their choosing, it is then possible to track who has taken the training for compliance purposes.
